Overall condition: Fair. The inscription is legible.


Description:

A stone and tile community hall with inscribed tablet and foundation stone on the front façade. It was originally constructed in the 1920s as a memorial to WW1 and contains wooden boards commemorating WW1 but a further board was subsequently added to commemorate WW2. The boards bear painted inscriptions in black upright capital block lettering and names in black upright sentence case lettering.

History
January 1920: It was announced that £500 had been raised and that building would start shortly.

1920-1923: The hall was designed by Mr Leighton, architect, of Sheffield under the directions of a committee chaired by Mr Joseph Ash JP.

10th November, 1923: The foundation stone was laid by Mr Frank Mills of Brough at a service conducted by Rev S Thomas, Vicar of Bradwell and Rev H Land, Primitive Methodist minister.

17th April, 1951: The memorial lies within the Peak District National Park designated on that date.

6th June 2016: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in fair condition.
