Overall condition: Good.  The inscription is legible.


Description:

A freestanding, rectangular, white sandstone tablet with a shallow segmental arch top on a rectangular stone plinth. A badge of 617 Sqn is at the head and the incised inscription is in upright capital roman lettering coloured black. The inscription on the plinth is in upright capital block lettering in relief with a dark coloured background.

USING THE BOUNCING BOMB DEVISED BY
DR BARNES WALLIS
DERWENT DAM WAS CHOSEN BECAUSE OF ITS
CLOSE RESEMBLANCE TO THE GERMAN DAMS
FOR INTENSIVE LOW LEVEL PRACTICE
AND BOMB AIMING TECHNIQUES.
