Overall condition: Fair. The inscription is legible.


Description:

A white marble tablet on a grey marble backboard. The plain oblong marble tablet has decorative lower corners and an inscription in upright capital roman and block lettering with the names arranged in blocks by village. The lettering is coloured black with rubricated headings and initials. The mottled grey backboard is oblong with a moulded cornice at the head.

History
c1919: The tablet was designed by Mr Maurice Wheatcroft (Royal Engineers) of Hasland and made by Berresfords, monumental masons, of Belper. It was funded by public subscription.

30th November, 1919: The memorial was unveiled and dedicated by the Rev W V Davies, Rector of St Paul's Church.

23rd February, 2016: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in fair condition although some of the lettering had become faded and difficult to read.
