Location details:
The recreation ground lies south of the centre of the village and east of the un-named road from Humphrey Gate to Flagg.
Type
Overall type: Land. Overall condition: Fair. The inscription is legible.


Description:

A triangular plot of land, OS Parcel number 4486, comprising meadowland rich in wild plants and containing undulations suggestive of old lead workings and containing the High Well, formerly the main source of water for the village. Near the centre of the plot is a concrete shelter containing a seat affording good views over the village and surrounding countryside. On the wall of the shelter is a limestone tablet bearing an incised inscription in upright capital block lettering.

History and Conservation
cOctober, 1922: The land was donated to the parish by Thomas Denman GCMG KCVO PC, 3rd Baron Denman.

17 April 1951: The memorial lies within the Peak District National Park designated on that date.

8th May, 2014: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in fair condition and was legible although the inscription had been slightly defaced by vandalism.
