Overall condition: Good The inscription is legible.


Description:

A tall column of polished grey Aberdeen granite surmounted by a finial and ornate capstone and surmounting a circular plinth. The capstone is in the form of an urn-shaped finial with domed top and conical pedestal with hollowed sides and incised scrolls around the perimeter. The column has oblong panels on its face, formed from narrow incised lines and containing the inscription and names incised in upright capital block lettering coloured black (but originally gilded). The plinth has a hollowed chamfer around its upper perimeter and has a panel also created by incised lines and containing a further inscription. The whole surmounts a two-stepped stone base and concrete foundation.

History and Conservation

Summer, 1920: The memorial was executed by Ted Morley of E Morley and Son of High Street, Alfreton. It cost c£70 raised by members of the church and friends.

1st September, 1920: The memorial was unveiled by Rev C Kellett.

1967: The church closed and the memorial was moved to the cemetery about that time.

9th February, 2018: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in good condition although the lettering on the plinth was beginning to lose the black colouring.
