Description:
A traditional temporary well dressing tableau made from flowers and other vegetation pressed into clay held in a wooden frame. The dressing comprised a central recessed main panel flanked by a pair of columns supporting an arch. The complex themes featured a biblical scene but also commemorated the 70th anniversary of VE Day and the role of women in WW2.
The central panel featured a depiction of Elizabeth's meeting with Mary in a courtyard with countryside visible in the background.. The lettering on the arch was in red upright capital block lettering against a white ground and the finial comprised a white cross above the badge of the Sherwood Foresters Regiment and a collection of WW2 medals. The two columns each contained a collection of badges representing various women's organisations. The the left were badges of the Auxiliary Territorial Service, the Women's Royal Naval Service, the Women's Auxiliary Air Force and the unofficial and clandestine Women's Home Defence unit. To the right were badges of the Women's Land Army, the Women's Institute and the Women's Voluntary Service.
