Northwest of the church, on the right side when walking up the hill, close to the cliff edge.

Overall condition: Fair. The inscription is legible.


Description:

A flower vase added to a CWGC war grave. The oblong concrete vase has a slate tablet on the face bearing an incised inscription in upright capital block lettering which may once have been gilded but is now somewhat faded. The vase accompanies a CWGC headstone which forms part of the war grave but is not part of this memorial.

History and Conservation
October 1980: The memorial lies within the Old Matlock Conservation Area first designated in that month.

19th September, 2017: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in fair condition although the edges of the concrete vase have suffered from crumbling and the tablet was disfigured by lichen.

Comments
Although Herbert Poundall is named on the accompanying headstone, that is his CWGC War Grave so is not classified as a war memorial according to the definition adopted by most heritage organisations. Further details of the headstone may be obtained from the CWGC website.
