Location details:
The church is on the east side of Mapleton Rd near the junction with Yerley Hill. The tablet is inside, on the south wall of the chancel.
Mapleton Rd is also known as Ashbourne Road. The village name is pronounced Mappleton and is so spelt on some modern maps but historically it was spelt Mapleton. No road names are given on Ordnance Survey maps and those used may not have been formally designated.

Overall type: Tablet Overall condition: Fair. The inscription is legible and the memorial is cared for.


Description:

A wall-mounted black stone tablet surmounted by a triangular pediment and with oblong insets at the lower corners. The tablet has an inscription incised in upright capital roman lettering coloured white, and the tablet and pediment have plain gilded borders.

13th September, 1967: The church was listed Grade II* Heritage List for England number 1335265.

February, 1981: The Mapleton Conservation Area was first designated. The church lies within it.

26th September, 2019: The memorial was recorded by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in fair condition and cared for.
