Description:
A temporary Derbyshire well dressing display traditionally made from flowers and other vegetation pressed into clay held in a wooden frame but now often utilising stones, beads, fabric etc. The dressing comprised an upright oblong main panel recessed in an oblong frame and surmounted by a segmental pediment. The central panel depicted an aerial view of the white cliffs of Dover superimposed by a large image image of a Spitfire fighter in camouflage, in turn superimposed with six aircraft of the Red Arrows. The top of the frame bore the beginning of the inscription with a small yellow cross in the centre and a red poppy to each side. The frame around the main panel bore a series of small images of military vehicles against a green and blue ground; a small Union Flag in each corner; and pink oblong panels centally at the head and foot, the upper one bearing badges and the lower one bearing the completion of the inscription. The inscriptions wer in upright capital block lettering in red and black.
