Description:
A temporary Derbyshire well dressing display traditionally made from flowers and other vegetation pressed into clay held in a wooden frame but now often utilising stones, beads, fabric etc. The dressing comprised an upright oblong frame with a triangular pediment at the top. The panel was split into three sections: at the head and at the foot were friezes containing the inscriptions in pale green upright capital lettering on maroon grounds. The main central square bore a central roundel containing the anniversary date superimposed by a white dove of peace carrying streamers of red poppies in its bill. Above and below were the dates of VE Day and VJ Day respectively and to each side were four small panels arranged vertically and containing images of the cross of St George in red on a white shield, alternating with crossed Union Flags on staves. The whole was on a grey background with red poppies scattered at the foot. The pediment bore the year in red on a mottled grey ground with red poppies.
