Location details: On the northern side of Rutland Sq, just inside Bath Gardens. Rutland Sq is so labelled on maps since at least 1880 but is recorded by the Post Office as The Square.

Overall condition: Good. The inscription is legible.
|
Description:
A freestanding monument comprising a square sandstone ashlar pedestal bearing bronze plaques and surmounted by a flagstaff. The sandstone ashlar pedestal has a moulded capstone and plinth and surmounts a square ashlar base over a circular one. The 6 o'clock face bears an inscription incised in upright capital roman lettering and the other three faces bear bronze plaques with raised fluted borders and raised inscriptions in upright capital block lettering. In the centre of the capstone is a circular bronze socket bearing the tall flagstaff which normally carries a Union Flag.

28th March, 1980: The memorial lies within the Bakewell Conservation Area first designated on that date.
13th May, 2015: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in good condition.
