On the northern side of Rutland Sq, just inside Bath Gardens. Rutland Sq is so labelled on maps since at least 1880 but is recorded by the Post Office as The Square.

Type

Overall type: Flagstaff.

Overall condition: Good. The inscription is legible.

Description:

A freestanding monument comprising a square sandstone ashlar pedestal bearing bronze plaques and surmounted by a flagstaff. The sandstone ashlar pedestal has a moulded capstone and plinth and surmounts a square ashlar base over a circular one. The 6 o'clock face bears an inscription incised in upright capital roman lettering and the other three faces bear bronze plaques with raised fluted borders and raised inscriptions in upright capital block lettering. In the centre of the capstone is a circular bronze socket bearing the tall flagstaff which normally carries a Union Flag.
