Description:
A Brincliffe Blue sandstone monument comprising a cross on a two-stepped pedestal, plinth and two-stepped base within a walled plot. At the centre of the cross is a pelican in her piety in relief and the four limbs contain interwoven strapwork in relief. At the top of the tapered shaft is a robed figure of St Michael bearing a sword, with further interwoven strapwork below. The two-stepped pedestal has battered faces and bevelled top and bears the incised inscription on its faces in upright capital roman lettering coloured black. The plinth has vertical faces and a hollow chamfered top. The two steps of the base have vertical faces, and the lower step is of concrete.

History and Conservation
|
c1921: The memorial was designed by Samuel Hancock and Sons of Nether Green, Sheffield.
22nd October, 1922: The memorial was unveiled by Victor Cavendish KG, GCVO, GCVO, PC, 9th Duke of Devonshire, and dedicated by Rev J F Warner, Vicar.
8 May 2014: The sword blade had broken off the figure on the shaft.
17 April 1951: The memorial lies within the Peak District National Park designated on that date.
8th May, 2014: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in fair condition and cared for.
18th August, 2018: The memorial was photographed by Glyn Williams. It was in fair condition, cared for, and exceptionally well decorated with a floral tribute for the centenary of the Armistice.
