Description:
Additional lettering to an inscription on a headstone on a family grave. The grey limestone headstone has a pointed arch top, chamfered borders and a triangular panel of foliage in relief at the head. The inscription is inlaid in upright, mainly capital, block lettering.

In Loving Memory of ELLEN ELIZABETH THE BELOVED WIFE OF JOHN ALSOP, OF GRATTON WHO DIED MARCH 16TH. 1933 AGED 54 YEARS. ALSO THE ABOVE NAMED JOHN ALSOP, WHO DIED AUGUST 10TH. 1942, AGED 78 YEARS. ALSO THEIR BELOVED SON PTE. JOHN ALSOP NO G/19969. OF THE ROYAL WEST KENT REGT. REPORTED MISSING NEAR PASSCHENDAELE RIDGE OCT 26TH. 1917, AFTERWARDS PRESUMED KILLED, AGED 19 YEARS. GOD TAKES OUR LOVED ONES FROM OUR HOMES BUT NEVER FROM OUR HEARTS.

17th April, 1951: The memorial lies within the Peak District National Park designated on that date.
15th October, 2009: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in fair condition but the headstone was almost totally obscured by a tree growing on the grave.
