On the northern side of the junction. The Street is sometimes known as Rakes La and Sawpit Hill is sometimes known as Chapel La.

Description:

A traditional temporary well dressing tableau made from flowers and other vegetation pressed into clay held in a wooden frame. The dressing comprised a central recessed main panel flanked by a pair of columns supporting an arch. The complex themes featured a biblical scene but also commemorated the anniversaries of the British Red Cross and the end of WW2.

The central panel featured the biblical scene surrounded by a multicoloured border of overlapping squares and was complemented by the main inscription on the arch in purple upright capital lettering. The apex contained the badge of the Red Cross with accompanying inscription, all in red and surmounted by a finial of a further red cross with green border. The two columns each contained a Union Flag in red, white and blue with the inscriptions in red and blue upright capital lettering.

History

Summer 1995: The memorial was planned, designed and constructed by members of the local community.

May, 1995: The memorial was blessed by the local clergy before being displayed for a few days and subsequently dismantled with the components salvaged for future use.
