Description:

A traditional temporary well dressing tableau made from flowers and other vegetation pressed into clay held in a wooden frame. The dressing comprised a central recessed main panel flanked by a pair of columns supporting an arch. The complex themes featured a biblical scene but also commemorated the centenary of the outbreak of WW1.

The central panel featured a male lion and a lamb lying in a green field with poppies in the foreground and an overhanging tree against a blue sky, all surrounded by a multicoloured border of zigzags in mauves and purples. The lettering on the arch was in purple upright capital block lettering against a white ground and the finial comprised a cross surmounting a spray of red poppies. The two columns each contained a cross at the foot with a spray of red poppies and a white dove of peace flying above in a blue sky with the inscriptions in red and purple upright capital block lettering.
