History
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| 1940s: The memorial is presumed to have been installed in the public banking area of the London Road branch of the Westminster Bank. 1968: The Westminster and National Provincial Banks merged to become the National Westminster Bank Ltd, or NatWest. c1994: The London Road branch of the NatWest Bank is believed to have closed and the memorial is presumed to have been moved to the St Peter's St branch. (The former London Road building was later occupied by Cavendish Philatelic Auctions.) 16th January 2011: The memorial was surveyed in the St Peter's Street branch by Eric Naden. It was in fair condition and well cared for. At that time the two plaques were mounted on the east wall inside the building and this WW2 plaque was the higher of the two. 2000: NatWest became a subsidiary of the holding company The Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc. Unknown date: The public banking area was redecorated and the memorial was moved about 3m onto the north wall inside the building. This WW2 plaque was the lower of the two. 19th August 2016: The memorial was resurveyed in the St Peter's Street branch by Eric Naden and Roy Branson. It was in fair condition and well cared for. At that time the two plaques were mounted on the north wall inside the building and this WW2 plaque was the lower of the two. |
