History and Conservation
8th June,1917: Capt Ball's Citation for the Victoria Cross was published in the Supplement to the London Gazette.

15th June, 1999: The citation was presented to the school by Maj John Cotterill of the Worcester and Sherwood Foresters Regt.

Unknown date: It is suspected that the display was remounted.

Unknown date: The display was installed in The Venn Room.

2nd April, 2024: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in good condition.

Comments
Capt Albert Ball is acknowledged as a WW1 flying ace who enlisted in 2/7th (Robin Hood) Battn, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regt) but subseqently transferred to 56th Sqn Royal Flying Corps. He was awarded the Victoria Cross, Distinguished Service Order and 2 Bars, Military Cross, was mentioned in despatches and awarded the Croix de Chevalier, Legion d'Honneur (France), the Order of St. George, 4th Class (Russia) and was an Honourary Freeman of the City of Nottingham. He died on 7th May, 1917 aged 20 years.
