Description:
Originally a hexagonal pillar bearing tablets and with a conical top, but subsequently supplemented by a low wall bearing further tablets.
The hexagonal sandstone pillar has an attached column at each corner and surmounts a two-stepped plinth with chamfered tops. Each face contains a recessed slate tablet headed by a pointed arch resting on the capitals of the columns and and bearing stepped recessed triangles in each spandrel. Above each arch a hollowed projecting frieze has a fleurette in relief to each side. The tall hexagonal conical top or spire has a triangular panel at the foot of each face, each bearing a recessed stepped trefoil, and the 6 o'clock face bears a wreath in relief, with a ribbon bearing the motto DIEU ET MON DROIT. At the apex is a cross with the three curved limbs each splayed into three points, and with a curved lozenge opening at the centre. The whole surmounts a two-stepped ashlar base set within a paved area with a kerb to each side and a step at the front. The tablet on the 6 o'clock face bears a line cross at the head and a dedication to the fallen of WW1. The other five tablets bear a different line emblem at the head and the names of the WW1 fallen. All inscriptions are incised in gilded upright capital roman lettering.
Following WW2 a low rusticated ashlar wall was erected behind the pillar containing three further slate tablets each set within a chamfered sandstone frame. The central, upright tablet bears the WW2 dedication and the horizontal tablets to each side bear the WW2 names, all matching the WW1 inscriptions.
