Description:

A three-bay oaken board in a classical style.
The projecting central bay has a dentilated and moulded pediment at the head with a carved oval badge in the tympanum bearing a buck on a rock and with the motto BUXTONA QUÆ CALIDÆ CELEBRABERE NOMINE LYMPHÆ 1580. (This may have been the badge of the Buxton Urban District Council and the motto was later incorporated into the coat of arms of the Buxton Municipal Borough.) Below the pediment a dentilated cornice rests on a pair of short pilasters with a blind panelled frieze between. Below this is a pair of long fluted pilasters flanking a panel bearing the dedicatory inscription (and the woodcarver's name at the bottom right corner) and with a pair of intricately carved figures before each pilaster: an infantryman in service dress with pith helmet and rifle to the left, representing the Sherwood Foresters ; a cavalry trooper in service dress with slouch hat and rifle representing the Derbyshire Yeomanry to the right.
The narrower bays to each side have a moulded and dentilated cornice at the head but otherwise repeat the overall design of the central bay with one further pilaster to each side. The upper friezes, however, each bear a carved military badge: that to the left is of the Sherwood Foresters Regiment; that to the right is of the Derbyshire Yeomanry. The two main side panels bear the names of the fallen in a single column.
The whole surmounts a base board with moulded edges supported on a pair of moulded and fluted brackets with a panel between bearing carved leaves and the date in relief at the centre.
The dedication and the names are carved in upright capital lettering in cavo rilievo, each name being separated from the next by a line of repeated carved fleurons.
