Type
Overall type: Cross of Sacrifice Overall condition: Good. The inscription is legible and the memorial is cared for.


Description:

A CWGC style sandstone cross of sacrifice. The octagonal potent cross has a tapered shaft which broadens at the foot to form the joggle, and bears an inverted bronze sword (a sword of peace) on the 6 o'clock face. It surmounts a monolithic pedestal and a plinth. These surmount a four-stage ashlar base. The inscription is incised in upright capital roman lettering on the front faces of the pedestal and plinth, and on the back of the pedestal.

Comments
The article in the Derby Telegraph and other provincial newspaper in August 1927 is very confusing as it mixes up details of local casualties with those of Canadian casualties stationed in the area.
