Location details:
The village name was changed from Bugsworth to Buxworth in 1930.
The memorial is southeast of the church, just inside the gates.
Type
Overall type: Cross. Overall condition: Fair. The inscription is legible and the memorial is cared for.


Description:

A cross surmounting a pedestal and accompanied by a stone wall bearing a plaque. The sandstone latin cross is octagonal in section with the tapered shaft terminating in a square foot. At the centre of the cross is a shield bearing a Christograph and a latin cross in relief. The square sandstone pedestal has canted corners towards the top and a chamfered upper edge, the lower part being formed by arches at the corners and the 6 o'clock face bearing a cavo relievo inscription in upright capital uncials. The adjacent wall retains the graveyard and is formed of irregular roughly dressed sandstone blocks with dressed copings and a central raised projection formed of dressed ashlar sandstone and bearing a plaque. The square bronze plaque has a raised bead and reel border and contains an inscription and the names in raised upright capital roman lettering on a stippled ground.

History and Conservation
4th November, 1920: The memorial was unveiled by Brig Gen Godfrey D Goodman CMG VD sometime officer commanding 1/6th Battn Sherwood Foresters Regt, and dedicated by Rt Rev Charles T Abraham, Bishop Suffragan of Derby.

28th March, 2019: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Alan Willmot. It was in fair condition and cared for.
