A Canadian Maple tree within a wooden and wire guard frame which bears a metal plaque with an inscription incised in upright capital lettering.

History and Conservation

Unknown date: The tree was planted by Sgt Wilkinson's sister.

17th April, 1951: The Peak District National Park was designated. The memorial lies within its area.

24th June, 2011: The memorial was surveyed by Roy Branson and Frances Casey. It was in fair condition.

Comments

Sgt Wilkinson was amongst the crew killed when their aeroplane crashed close to the village of Hope on the 15th February 1943. It was.a Vickers Armstrong Wellington Mk 3 HF613 coded DD-R, from No 22 Operational Training Unit, RAF Wellesbourne Mountford, No 1 Group, Bomber Command.
