Description:
A traditional temporary well dressing tableau made from flowers and other vegetation pressed into clay held in a wooden frame. The dressing was built on three sides of the village pump, the fourth side open to the road. The design included a column on each side, an arch spanning between the two columns and side panels displaying four tableaux.
The two columns contained sinuous vines in green, gold and yellow with a tree at the head of each, the left one labelled 1935, the right 1995. The year was also depicted in black roundels at the centre of the two columns, the left bearing 19 and the right bearing 95. The arch contained the inscription in white upright capital letters on a black ground, and at the apex was a badge with the motto For home and country.
The four tableaux each depicted a biblical scene including The Shepherd's Visit and Jesus Helping His Mother.
The well dressing was displayed for a few days in 1995 and was subsequently dismantled.
