Overall condition: Fair. The inscription is legible.
|
Description:
An addition to a headstone on a family grave. The white marble headstone has recessed sides, a pointed arch top, an anchor and spray of flowers in relief in a recessed cusped triangular panel at the head and an inscription inlaid in mainly upright capital block lettering. The headstone and a similar one are accompanied by oblong chamfered white marble kerbs. The maker's name is inlaid at the left of the foot of the headstone.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF ELIZABETH, DAUGHTER OF GEORGE & SARAH HENSHALL. WHO DIED MAY 5TH. 1896, AGED 17 YEARS. "WE ASKED LIFE OF THEE, AND THOU GAVEST HER LIFE, YEA, EVEN FOR EVER AND EVER" ALSO OF JOHN HENSHALL, WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION AT MONT ROUGE APRIL 23RD. 1918, AGED 32 YEARS. "GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS."
